The Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust Ltd, created in 1975, is a charitable company (Registered in Wales, No: 1276976; Registered Charity No. 505609). Its principal objective is to educate the public in archaeology which it achieves by such diverse means as are allowed in its Articles and Memorandum of Association.

In 2008/09 the Trusties and staff reviewed the future direction of the Trust and produced an agreed 'Forward Strategy'. The activities the Trust undertakes, Projects, Research, Education, Heritage Managment, is focused to delivering public accessible and beneficial outputs, some of which are detailed on the main navigation bar at the top of this page.
Both the key strategic objectives and operational objectives were reviewed through presentations to members, presentations to and discussions with all employees, and shadowing in the latter part of 2008-2009.
The strategy in its final form was approved by the Board of Trustees on 27 March 2009.
The strategy was again reviewed and revised at a round table discussion following the Annual General Meeting of the Trust in November 2011, and by the Board of Trustees and Senior Staff in March 2012.
