In a word, my experience interning at the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust has been incredible. As I was a visiting exchange student at Swansea University, I have learned much from my 6 months experience working here and what I have gained in knowledge and skill has far superseded my previous expectations.
While interning at GGAT, I was able to acquire ICT skills in computerised recording and organisation of the vast amount of archaeological sites in which the Trust is involved. In working with these reports and in visiting a few of GGAT's archaeological sites with the staff, I was able to learn much about the fascinating history of South Wales and about the area in which I am temporarily living. I also had the opportunity to learn significant practical skills in computer graphics and writing for the purpose of public readership. Working with Paul Huckfield and Edith Evans I was able to use these new skills in order to create a poster exhibit that was featured in GGAT's exhibition at the National Eisteddfod in 2011. In addition to the practical know how I have taken from my internship experience, I have learned much about the inner-workings and organisation of an archaeological business and about how to work alongside others in a progressive and professional environment. Without a doubt, this knowledge is something that will greatly benefit me in my future career endeavours.
Aside from the knowledge I have gained in the actual working aspect of my internship, I have found equal value in the social aspect of my experience here at GGAT. While the staff here are simply delightful in their welcoming and hospitality, I also found them to be sincerely interested and passionate about their jobs and only too eager to help me along with both my work assignments as well as in every facet of my stay in Swansea.
Overall, I would have to say that my time at GGAT was a complete success. I gained practical knowledge and skills along with valuable work experience and friendships. And not only that, but GGAT has strengthened my interest as well as my confidence in my future career endeavours. I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me.
