Thornwell tomb, near Chepstow

An Archaeologist excavating the town ditch at Wind Street, Swansea

The chambered tomb at Thornwell near Chepstow was only discovered in the 1990s. It is now in the middle of a housing estate, but this area used to be farmland, and its true nature only became clear when an archaeological study was done of the area before the houses were built. This photograph was taken before the excavation began.

A photograph taken during the excavation of the Thornwell chambered tomb showing part of one of the chambers. One large and two small chambers were revealed, containing human bones. The scale pole is 2m long with the red sections 50cm long.
