Abernant Kiln (1997)

  • Whetstones for sharpening knives and other edged tools.
  • More rim sherds from mortaria.
  • Some mortaria were stamped by the maker. Not all the stamps are literate.
  • A selection of pottery from the kiln.
  • A mortarium. These mortars-cum-mixing-bowls were the Roman equivalent of a food processor.
  • Small pieces of stone were set into the surface of the mortarium. The lip was for pouring out runny mixtures.
