Summary A post -war urban landscape characterised as an architect-designed self-contained community, an example of mid 20th century social engineering. Historical background The historic landscape area of Trefechan designed 1947 (Arthur
J Hayes & Gordon H Griffiths). A council estate intended to function
as independent community with own public buildings; formal road layout,
houses are all semi-detached pairs angled to the contours, built of variety
of materials: brick exposed or roughcast, pre-cast slabs, and timber clad.
