Summary A small relict open landscape of pasture and scrub woodland, formerly part of Gurnos Farm. Historical background The historic landscape area of Y Graig, Gurnos is a remnant of land associated with Gurnos Farm to the south of the Heads of the Valleys Road. Shown as a fir plantation and other enclosures on the tithe of 1850, part of the estate of David Edwards, leased to William Crawshay (see 052). Cartographic evidence (1875) indicates the area contained a network of tracks leading to the Taff Fechan Valley and the Gurnos Quarry and lime works (see HLCA 012), and a small number of minor extractive features, possibly gravel pits. |
